Being able to move confidently on the international stage and competently present research results or teaching content in English are key skills for all academics: Academic exchange, networking and collaboration across national borders are of central importance for outstanding research and teaching.

With the certificate for international teaching competence, lecturers and junior academics at Faculty 02 Social Sciences, Media and Sport can have their expertise in international university teaching recognized.

In order to receive the certificate, candidates must provide evidence of further training in the areas of intercultural communication and English language skills, as well as document a wide range of experience in international university teaching. Finally, candidates reflect on their international teaching skills on the basis of their teaching experience and findings from the further training courses.

In order to receive the certificate, please send all the necessary evidence (confirmation of participation in further training courses and a list of the required teaching experience with the title, date and location of the events or lectures) together with the final reflection to: sowiso@uni-mainz.de

We would also be happy to advise you personally on suitable further education opportunities, funding opportunities, possibilities for extra-curricular courses in English at the department and participation in the CRiSS lecture series.

For groups

  • Special courses for certificate candidates can, in principle, be provided by Human Resources Development if there is sufficient demand. Please register your requirements at sowiso@uni-mainz.de.
  • As part of the Erasmus staff training take place Staff Training Weeks (STW) take place at various universities abroad, in which JGU employees can participate and receive financial support. Some STWs offer English language courses or focus on topics such as intercultural communication for teaching staff.

The recognition of other externally completed courses is possible in principle.
